The message board for my online Social Psychology course was spammed with angry messages from students after the marks of a recent online test were posted. Apparently a lot of people did really poorly and they started complaining about how unfair the course was and how impractically large the workload was. I actually did really well on that test ( Read more... )

I majored in Psych, and noticed that a lot of other psych students also had their own personal worries of a psychological nature. I'm sure something will happen to make you feel the way you want to feel eventually. Don't think about it, really. However, your post reminded me of 2 LJ friends who are also in Psych, who express similar thoughts. You might check them out and think to add them perhaps!...

Oh cool I didn't know you majored in psych. How did you find it and how much of it do you find useful for what you're doing currently?

I found it very useful, except that it made me think about grades. But the best part was how it organised concepts for me overall. It also introduced me to key concepts which I still use in my developing thought - such as paradoxical Pavlovian conditioning, where a dog will go through punishment when the reward is known to no longer be there. I specialised in cognitive science, and this was very important to ideas in "information processing" or how we value things. I also learned much about the brain, combined with my own growing interest in stress. These helped me bring together very different concepts, as in psychoneuro economics or psychoneuroimmunology ( ... )

I have the same issues. I always want for something to happen that makes me feel good about myself, but when I do something better, I sometimes feel worse.

I get you on the mediocre bit. I'm in therapy for many of these feelings.

Thanks, I think I just need to focus more on my achievements than my failures.

It actually is. I'm not sure if it's age or the therapy, but things are much better right now than they were a year ago even. I imagine therapy has a large role in that.
