Who are they discussing for the roles? I mean, Britney as Janet... VERY BAD. I wouldn't mind it as long as they were casting decent parts. You LOVE Rocky Horror! You don't want it made for a whole new generation to enjoy?!
As far as I know, there hasn't been anything set. Variety put up an article here about it. I think (and so does my entire cast) that MTV remaking this is the biggest mistake, ever. There have been talks in the past of other people doing remakes, but never went through. This movie isn't something that can be re-done. I know that remakes are never the same as the original, and being someone who performs it every week, I know how hard it is to imitate it.
And, trust me, there are plenty of people in all "generations" still coming out to see the show for the first time. Most weeks, half (or more) of our audience are Rocky virgins.
Maybe if it wasn't MTV producing it, I'd feel differently, but I don't see how it can be enjoyable being done by the "MTV Generation."

Yeah... check out my comment to ghosty4, and there's a link to the article from Variety talking about it.
The sad thing is, I posted this in a few Rocky communities, and so far I've been blasted for "bitching" about it. I think it's a big mistake, there's no way the MTV generation can possible come close to anything that is and was RHPS. If it was something else producing it, probably wouldn't be so critical of it ... but at the same time, it's hard enough imitating it, you just can't remake it.

i can't believe they're blasting you for it! i can't imagine any rhps fan wanting this to happen. why mess with perfection? ugh. Mtv hasn't produced anything GOOD probably EVER. all their movies are campy, boring and over the top to the point that they're annoying. i say good for you, for spreading the word!

That's how I feel about it. Someone commented on how the movie is a "remake" of the stage show. Yes, that is true... but most of the original stage show actors were in the movie production, and it was Richard O'Brien's production of his own play. This just has bad written all over it. No one in the MTV generation could be put in those roles.. I mean, yeah, Britney could probably fill Janet's role as the slut, but really, who else, and I wouldn't want to see Britney as Janet.
As campy as Rocky is, it holds a lot from the time period it was made in .. you can't recreate that 30 years later. And, there are still more than enough people filling theaters to see people like me perform it every weekend. As you said, why mess with perfection??
Even if doing this online petition is a waste of time (as I've been told repeatedly), spreading the word will make this remake flop as badly as the original, but it definitely WILL NOT have the cult following... it will just bomb, and horribly.
