So I just saw "The Watchmen" ...

Thoughts on yaoi (spoilers, obviously):

I knew going into the theatre that I was in for homophobia, controversial politics, and bucketloads of sexism, some from the original comic, and some introduced specially for the movie. However, I was still really surprised by the rape scene. Say what you will about The Watchmen and misogyny (and I do), one of the things I liked about the comic was the brutality of the rape attempt; although it's sexual, it's certainly not sexy. The movie version, on the other hand, might as well be pornography. The shots are certainly framed in such a way as to evoke the comparison. Even the beating (light, by the standards of cartoonishly absurd violence in the rest of the movie) and the blood on Sally's face (bright and fake, contrasted with the gruesome wounds to which the audience had already been exposed) can't manage to mitigate the sensuality of the scene. She was even panting in small, breathy gasps which could be (mis?)taken for pleasure. It was rape porn, in all its sexy atrocity.

There are many more things to say about this movie (hiring the guy who directed 300 = worst idea ever), but if I start, I'll be here for hours.

I really need a serious, non-fandom icon.

In other news, I'm reading RPF. Yeah, I don't know either. /o\

In other, other news, I'm totally changing my major. I am unbelievably happy about this.

serious thoughts, feminism: fun for the whole family, fandom: comics, real life no really
