I'm not familiar with the source. Is there a way you can either photocopy or scan the pattern? From that I can either figure it out, or fix it so it works.
An alternative is to check the publisher's website, and see if they've listed errata for the pattern.
I know the pattern but I've not done it so I can't help you yet. Have you joined etatters online? It's free and it's members are very helpful tatters. Go to mail@etatters.ning.com and ask to join. The woman who looks after it is called Kersti. I think you might get the help you need with this group.
I have a membership with them, but I can't get to their site for some reason. I don't know if they are down, or if I just don't have a route to them right now. I haven't been able to connect to it for a few days, so I don't know.
Did you ever get an answer to this? I don't have the book in question, but I think I saw someone discussing it recently on the Yahoo group "Here Be Tatters." If etatters.ning hasn't already helped, I know the folks over at HBT would be willing.
I actually did figure out a way to do this pattern and make it look correct, I just haven't been working on tatting for a few months now. The fix/work-around wasn't simple, but I should be able to post it up here soon (for anyone else who wants to do this pattern)
