I no this is a tattoo community but maybe someone can help me...

I am going to have surgery next monday. Last year i had a smiliar proceedure, and all my piercings had to come out, 2hours after my tragus was taken out it closed up... and I had to get it redone, extra money but worth it, since then i have gotten my tongue pierced...i have many more ( Read more... )

The reason they have you take out metal jewelry, as far as i understand, is because it conducts electricity. I've heard that plastic spacers are allowed.
That being said, I don't live in Australia so I couldn't tell you where to find any of that.

yeah, plastic jewelry should be alright

but I would definitely not suggest wearing the tongue ring (as you said it could potentially be life threatening).

You wouldn't want it falling out while you're under anastesia or anything.

I would suggest just leaving it in as long as possible.
I'm not sure how long your surgery will be though.
I took my tongue ring out once for an hour or so & it hurt to get it back in!
I think it just depends on how long you've had it pierced (mine had only been pierced a few months).

if you have the time, check some websites for plastic jewelry (although I haven't shopped for jewelry in a LONG time so I couldn't recommend some for you)
