I keep wanting to sing, but I don't think I am good enough to either front a band or do backup.

Fucking self esteem.

I imagine you could find a musician who does not believe he is good enough either, and then you could perform at open mics.

Presuming you are good enough to enjoy yourself, that is.

If there's one thing that American Idol and the radio (not to mention Tom Waits and Bobb Dylan) have taught us, it's that you don't really need to be a good singer to sing. I say go for it.

Who cares if you're "good enough?" Just do it.

I second truenerdking. The list of people that can't really sing all that well or have completely unsettling voices only starts at the likes of Tom Waits and Bob Dylan; let us not forget Ian Curtis, Thom Yorke, Lou Reed, Robert Smith, Kim Gordon, Shirley Manson, Courtney Love, most punk frontmen, and so on. Sometimes being off-key adds a unique touch to the song, a spark that wouldn't be there if the singer had perfect pitch.

Personally, I prefer the singers who "can't sing."

Liquid self esteem helps. That's how I got through it.
