considering blogathon

I just heard about Blogathon and am considering trying it. (Yes, I am behind the times. My next trick will be to use the camera on my cell phone!) Obligatory link below:

Blogathon 2007Staying up for 24 hours shouldn't be a problem; I've been to cons before. Having content for every half-hour might be trickier ( Read more... )

Um. May I suggest not doing it on the official date? You'd been finishing up the day before your interview--not something you want to go to while recovering from sleep debt or re-ordering your sleep/wake cycle.

The official date is Saturday the 28th to Sunday the 29th. I fly out on Monday morning with the main event happening on Tuesday. That would give me all day Sunday, and Sunday night, to get back on track, with Monday night as back-up. I've done paper all-nighters with less recovery time than that. More recently, I've done the "get up at stupid o'clock in the morning for work" and have to force myself to bed at 2 in the morning. And then stare at the clock for the next few hours. Actually staying up really late and then sleeping until I'm not tired might actually be A Good Thing.

I'm still not sure I'm *doing* it, though; from the little forum-surfing I've done it seems like I'm pretty far behind and might not attract a sponsor.

My secondary idea would be to try something unofficial on the honor system on this LJ and see what it's like for next year. That could work, especially if I had "penalties" for wimping out.

Sleep dep does take the edge off your cognitive abilities. Not such a big deal for writing a paper, when there are going to be several for the same class and writing is a well-practiced skill. A bigger deal for an interview where you're trying to make a good social impression, deal with unexpected questions off the cuff, and cope with the stresses of travel all at the same time. Or to put it another way, you may as well go in with your blood pool at maximum.

Part of me still thinks I could do it. I sleep better when I'm drop-dead exhausted, and 24 hours of posting should do that. *g*

But see my most recent post. I feel a little guilty, but this way I am donating to a worthy cause, having fun, and getting to bed at a resonable time. (Boy does that make me sound old!)

But how would that help my gnosis? Or my glamour? *g*
