Snape rose early and spent his mornings in the library, teaching the Countess to read the English alphabet (and himself to read the Elene one), stopped in the kitchen long enough to acquire a sandwich, and disappeared. He was as likely to forget skip dinner as not, either down in the basement or out raiding the hatches of Taxon.
There was a reason that Severus Snape ended up in dungeons, cellars and basements all the time. If he were to be perfectly honest with himself, it was because he was so used to them that the utter darkness and the slight smell of wet earth translated in his subconscious to safety and good sleep. Fortunately, potionmaking offered its own excuses - distancing kitchens and populated areas from risk of flame and fume was simple common sense. Not that he was making potions yet. He'd have needed weeks to negotiate supplies and ingredients with the hatches even if he didn't have anything else to do, and he needed to begin laying down as much of the student reading as possible.
Thus did Severus Snape begin the Great Hatch Epidemic of ...Do We Even Have A Calendar?
The problem was not creating the books. Snape was a bookish fellow by nature, and he usually managed to get a complete copy of a textbook in only two tries. (One to produce the look, feel and general content for him to review, and then a second try once the first had jogged his memory enough to fill in all the gaps.) The problem was that the hatches had it out for him. He'd get maybe three books finished before something would go wrong. Usually the hatches just sorted out. Two of them exploded. The one that he tried to pull Transfiguration texts out of started spitting out a great wave of pointy green caps instead after only ten minutes. One of them turned to jam. (Some quick-thinking on his part resulted in a few nearby rocks being transfigured into (green) glass jars. Snozzberry spread for Castle Gatas, hooray?)
For the people in Castle Gatas, all is well, all is under control. For the rest of Taxon...well aren't you all glad that there's a mall to get things at now, since Snape is making his way through the hatches in the city one by one? Surely they'd be fixed sooner or later...right?
[HI GUYS this is an all-purpose post for people in and out of the Castle, which feels like cheating, but TAG IT IF YOU WANT SOME SNAPE. You know you do. >:E ]
