The all too familiar voice catches Katherine's attention immediately. Elena is back? Scoffing, the vampire holds back on responding just yet, instead listening in on the other conversations for a while (screw you, Caroline, she heard that). The anger that's been her almost constant companion for the past few weeks starts to slowly take hold again. Why the hell did the hamsters see fit to bring Elena back instead of Stefan? This just wasn't fair

Elena would have loved so much to have ignored Katherine but with what had just happened, and Katherine in general, she knew that wasn't a good idea. She gave a sigh, gritting her teeth almost as she replied.
"No, I didn't." And she would love for Katherine to get off the line, especially with how much else she'd been told earlier that day but... it wasn't an option - she'd find her regardless, she just hoped that Jenna hadn't invited her in.

Katherine smirked at Elena's refusal to converse with her face to face over the tablets, but switched the feed to audio herself. Elena may think she's displaying her disdain by denying the visual, but while Katherine didn't doubt her descendant's dislike, the vampire interpreted it mostly as fear; a precaution taken out of wariness. Good. They should all be afraid.
"Oh, no? Funny thing, that. I could have sworn I heard my name mentioned, a few times in fact. Oh, well," Katherine said lightly, all easy (but deceptive) nonchalance. "I must say, I am surprised to see you back here so soon after your departure. The aliens must like you for some reason."
She emphasized the word slightly venomously. What the hell made this one so special to all and sundry? Katherine couldn't understand it.
"Talking about you don't mean that I want you." Because that would never happen. Wanting Katherine's help? She'd rather her be dead.
"Yeah, and apparently they're not the only ones. What do you want, Katherine?" Elena wasn't dumb enough to imply that Katherine liked her, she just wanted to know what to expect. And yes, there was a lot of displeasure in every word as she spoke. Displeasure and disinterest.

"Well, that makes you a bit of a tease, then," Katherine drawled, dark amusement lacing her tone. Never say never, Elena. Especially in Taxon.
"What do I want?" the vampire repeated, humming shortly as if thinking hard about the question. "Let's see. My freedom, world peace, Stefan, some dinner... not necessarily in that order."
Now she was just trolling. Unhelpful and exasperating she could do very well when she was so inclined.
Voluntarily never. She wouldn't wish for it, anyway.
"None of that you'll get from me." Especially dinner. She was hoping that Jenna hadn't invited you in either from the porch or here. No Gilbert or Sommers snacks for you.
And really, Elena didn't care if that was what she really wanted or not, at least not right now. She would rather Katherine left her alone - or went home, that would work. She'd deal with her after she settled in.

Katherine chuckled, smug and self-satisfied. "Oh, Elena. If you only knew what I've already gotten out of those."
Vague and cryptic on purpose. That's how Katherine rolled. She meant Stefan, of course; how she'd been together romantically with him in Taxon for almost half a year prior to his disappearance. Of course, Katherine didn't know the whole thing had started out as an elaborate hoax on Stefan's side to use Katherine's feelings for him against her, to extract information out of her.
"Oh, well," she went on cheerfully, "Perhaps I should leave you to catch up with dear aunt Jenna."
"Stay away from her. And Caroline." Elena definitely needed to check whether Katherine had ever been invited in - the more she spoke to her the more she became worried that something else would happen, especially to Jenna. She'd almost just lost her once and talking to Katherine now was more than just a little sore.
"Oh, of course - anything for you, Elena dear," Katherine purred sarcastically, snorting. When would the girl learn she couldn't tell Katherine what to do? Maybe she needed a reminder one of these days. Smirking at the idea, Katherine went to disconnect the feed.
