027: Denial, Anger and Bargaining [Accidental Visual / Location: the Northern Island]

Dec 12, 2011 17:48

The room was dark and silent. The moonlight entering through the open window - DG, sitting on Glitch's bed with her knees hugged to her chest and her cheeks stained with tears, hadn't had the presence of mind to draw the curtains after sunset - was barely sufficient for the tablet. Not that she knew she was being recorded. The last thing that she ( Read more... )

Kobra had gotten the text, just like the rest of Taxon, and once he had comprehended what happened the first thing that came to his mind was that he was actually worried about DG. Out in the zones they had their way of dealing with things, but he had no idea how it worked here. So after some consideration and too many smoked cigarettes he turned on the tablet, starting a transmission.

"DG?" Kobra worried his bottom lip between his teeth, trying hard to refrain from lighting another cigarette. "Where are you?"

She started at the sound of her name, but it didn't take her long to realise that the aliens were up to their own tricks again and had decided to switch on the tablet. She picked it up off the floor, obliged to respond even if she was anxious to put her new plan into gear sooner rather than later.

(DG was grateful, inordinately grateful, that he didn't ask how she was. The answer was obvious and she couldn't have articulated it if she'd tried.)

"The Northern Island. But I'm heading to the hedge maze."

If he'd seen the message, then he'd probably know that was where the person who had posted it had been hiding at the time.

Well, good. At least she was replying. That was the first order of business when Ghoul, or heck even Kobra himself, went on the grid and hit the pedal too hard. Make sure to know where they are, that they are okay.

He's not about to ask her if it's a good idea, because Kobra knows the feeling, knows that it won't satisfy her NOT to go.

"I'll come with you," he says instead, because he's not the most level headed person out there, sure, but at least then she won't be alone in case she does something stupid.

It was a long way from a good idea. In fact, even as DG hurried down the stairs and into the main hall of the Northern Island, she acknowledged that it was probably a very bad idea. But it was also something that she had to do. If she didn't try, she'd never forgive herself.

"You can't. I don't know what's going to happen. I don't ..." She swallowed, almost choking on her grief for a moment. "I don't want you to get hurt too."

Party knows the look, the feeling of dread. He'd say it's a Killjoy thing but he knows it's not. It's a grieving thing. And he likes DG, he really does. Unawares Kobra's going with her, he switches the tablet on and keeps his gaze locked onto the screen.

There's no judgement. He knows this is something DG needs to do. And if they come back? They come back. An eye for an eye.

"Be careful, ladyjoy."

She was surprised - if she had been capable of feeling anything other than cold grief at the moment, she would probably have been touched as well - by Party's response. Their relationship had been turbulent since he'd arrived in the city. There had been moments when it had edged towards friendship, but there had also been moments when they clashed as well. She hoped it would stay in the latter category in the future.

"Thanks," she said, with the ghost of a smile on her lips and a nod of her head. "I will be."

After Mick sent out his message, he stayed put for a long while just talking to the people who got back to him - talking, and staring into the darkness that stood out too sharply against the snow ( ... )

Logically, DG knew that Mick wasn't to blame for what had happened to Glitch. Although she didn't understand the exact circumstances at the moment, she knew as well as anyone - and better than most, thanks to her own time as the witch - that you couldn't control what you did during a glitch. But thinking logically when you were wracked with grief was easier said than done.

She was pale and drawn when she reached the apartment, using the tablet to track down the location of the person who had sent the original message.

Drawing in a deep breath, she raised a hand and knocked sharply on the door.

Oh this didn't look good. Not at all.

"DG?"

Whatever it was her friend needed, Willow would be happy to oblige.

The smile that DG managed to give to Willow was tired and rather lifeless, a world away from the bright grin that was common when she was spending time with her friend.

“Willow.”

Willow would probably understand the situation better than most. She’d lost - and would lose, if what she had learned when Tara had been in the city with friends from her own future - Tara. That made it a little easier, if not easy, to speak to her.

“Did you hear what happened?”

Willow slowly shook her head, not liking the look on DG's face. "No. I think I've been loopless. Do you need company?"

The look her friend had was one Willow often wore when something bad had happened, the look that didn't want anyone to see her in such distress, but needed the extra support.

Although she hadn't intended to, DG nodded instinctively at the question. She did need company. She needed a shoulder to cry on, because she couldn't get through this herself.

"He didn't ... he ..." she swallowed, choking on the words. "He didn't make it through the fairy tale glitch."
