TOE!

Jul 16, 2006 13:50

So I was at work, about to go through a door, and Jason was at work, also about to go through a door. The same door. The door opens toward me. In short, my left big toe looks pretty fucking ugly right now =P

It felt exactly like a regular toe-stubbing, only just slightly worse. I was insisting that I was fine, and when I finally looked down, was shocked to see blood. Much more shocked to pick at my toenail and find that I could lift it right off. >_< The toenail is mostly detached and turning totally white. The podiatrist said it will fall off on its own as a new one grows in. I was afraid going to a doctor would cost, um, lots, but it was only $50. I didn't need stitching or xrays, thankfully ^-^ He clipped half of my toenail off, wrapped it up, gave me antibiotics for just-in-case, and sent me on my way. Right now it still hurts but only because the skin that was once covered by toenail is now being exposed to air for the first time ever, and is sorta leaking blood without actually bleeding, if ya know what I mean. There's no outer layer of skin there and I'm not sure an outer layer will grow. (If it does then I assume my toenail won't grow there anymore...?)

Jason is a quivering mass of guilt. He's offered to pay for the doctor's visit. He won't laugh or joke or talk to me. I want to tease him and say "owwww my toe, it huuuurts, buymecoffee," but I guess I should wait a couple days til the guilt dies down a little. >_> Sarah feels a guilty just by association, which makes NO sense not to mention she was a big help when it happened. Within five minutes she had already scheduled a doctor's appt for me and was cleaning and wrapping my toe for me (she used to work in a doctor's office so knows basic first aid things). "What other boss would do this for you?" she asked, and I had to agree that she is the bestest boss ever.

Once the doctor let me go I went right back to work. Wouldn't wanna miss hours on my paycheck y'see ;)

So, no more open toed shoes this summer (depending on how it grows back, I might have to avoid open toed shoes FORVEVAH. we'll see. I don't consider it a major loss).
