“Daddy? Is it meant to look like that?” five-year-old Gracie Temple asked.
“Um…” Connor looked at the cake, large and rather mushroom-cloud shaped. “I don’t think so, kitten. Give me that recipe card?”
Gracie handed him the card, he read the directions, mentally recounting what they had done whilst making the Cadbury’s Chocolate Fudge Cake.
“Oh frell,” Connor said quietly. “We switched the baking powder and the flour.”
Gracie poked the cake. “Can we still eat it? It’s mummy’s birthday. She must have a cake.”
The door opened. “Connor? Gracie? Mummy’s home.”
“Keep your coat on, love, we’re going out!”
