Unexpected
Connor was ecstatic about becoming a father. He smiled a dimpled smile and squeezed Abby’s hand. They were having twins and it was finally time to find out the sex of the babies.
Abby smiled back at him while the doctor started moving the transducer over Abby’s belly. Abby was large quite large for a mum carrying twins. Hopefully that meant they were healthy.
The doctor stopped abruptly and Connor and Abby both looked at her, alarmed.
“Oh! Well, that’s…” She moved the transducer to a different position. “Um… good news. It’s a boy and a girl… and a boy.”
Collateral Damage
Connor stared at the ruins of his prized Star Wars lightsaber.
His triplets had been having an epic battle in the front room. Sarah, had her toy mock up as did Stephen, the middle boy, and Nick, the oldest by twelve minutes.
Connor looked at the broken movie replica in his hands.
“Well, I guess I’ll have to fight on with my bare hands,” he roared as he grabbed for the nearest child. The three tackled him with ease.
The formerly pristine movie prop lay discarded and forgotten as the battle raged on with laugher and glee in its wake.
