All he could feel was pain. It was everywhere, all over.
And then, nothing.
Finnick opened his eyes. He was lying down, but where exactly, he couldn’t be sure. The pain was gone. So was everyone else. A pair of familiar green eyes peered down at him.
“Cinna!” Finnick grinned, pulling his friend into an embrace. Cinna laughed, playfully nudging Finnick off of him, and it was then that Finnick noticed that they weren’t alone. “And, well, I don’t think we’ve met.”
A young girl, with dark brown skin stood with Cinna, who had a sad smile on his face. She had her hand gripped in Cinna’s.
“Finn, this is Rue. Rue, this is Finnick Odair. He’s a friend of mine. Katniss’s too.”
“Nice to meet you, Mr Odair.” Finnick smiled as Rue held out a small hand for him to shake. Taking it, he said, ”Rue. Ah yes, I remember now. You were in last year’s Ga-” Finnick stopped, as the realisation finally sunk in. For the first time since he woke up, he took a better look at his surroundings.
“Cinna… where are we?” Cinna remained silent, looking down. “Cinna?” Still nothing.
“Cin, answer me.” Finnick was starting to sound panicked now. Rue looked from Cinna, who was still refusing to answer, to Finnick with a sad look on her face.
“Cinna… Cin, am I… ?” he swallowed, unable to bring himself to say it. No. He could be. He had promised Annie that he’d come back. And Finnick never broke his promises.
Cinna looked up, and slowly nodded. “Finn, I’m so sorry.”
