Holiday this week, wheeeeee!! Can't believe it's come around so quickly. I still have to clean most of the house and finish packing and check-in for our first flights and also finish lots of stuff for work, eeeeeeek.

We've found a new admin at work, hurrah. She starts in June, so only a few more weeks of me doing two jobs. Sadly, we've also lost ( Read more... )

There've got to be worse ways of spending your birthday! Although, I'm a little surprise that you're going on a boat. I've never had a house sitter, but yeah, I can see how that would feel weird. Summer only seems to have arrived here properly in the last couple of weeks and I've not done as much gardening as I had intended, I envy you're space for trees. Do let me know if you're like anything, beyond a card that is. Enjoy the assyrtiko!

I'm ok ON boats, the tricky part is going to be the swimming off the catamaran and getting back on board without freaking out. Only two swimming stops though, so we'll see how we go.

We didn't ask them to house sit. We have cat minders who stop in twice a day to spend time with and feed/clean the cats, but I think it's a mix of MIL thinking she's helping, but also them wanting a change of scenery. But they want to stay for most of the week, which is a bit longer than expected.

We have an allotment, so that helps with space and kinda forces us to make the time for gardening, regardless of the weather! Gotta get stuff in the ground if we're going to have any veggies! The sun and rain recently has definitely helped though. We already have an established apple tree half way down the allotment, and decided to plant the others at the foot of the allotment so in a few years we'll hopefully have a bit of privacy between the house and the dog walkers who use the allotment field!

Most people long for crystal clear waters where they can see the bottom - but I guess you pray for murk ;)
Didn't you do the isle of Mann once? I seem to remember. That's a rough crossing, if you can handle that then you'll be fine.

So it's a favour, but it feels like an invasion, but you're not supposed to think that and.... How am I doing so far?

So is the allotment attached to the house in some way? They're always separate here.

Clear water is great, so long as there's not boats or ship wrecks. I don't have a problem on boats, and I'm fine on channel crossings or on the catamaran to the Isle of Mann - I don't get sea-sick. I have submechanophobia, a fear of man-made stuff under the water. So being in the water next to the boat is going to creep me out!

Not quite - it's not a favour (we have already paid for the cat minders based on not having anyone at the house), but I think they see it as helping out, even though we've not asked them to. MIL always looks after BIL's cats and dog when they go away, and I think she thinks she needs to do the same for us to be fair? But we have the cat minders, so... *shrug*

The house and garden backs onto the allotment field. People whose houses back on to the field get 'garden extension' allotments, but people from elsewhere in the village have separate space. We're very fortunate.
