Went to check in on the foals and mares last weekend! The two foals are looking so good, really pleased with their progress.

Solero was a bit standoffish, but she's growing really nicely considering how tiny she was when she was foaled. She's got lovely straight knees and is looking a lot like some of the Havana Grey two year olds running at the

So many horses.
I suppose this is the quiet bit really, autumn to spring you'll loose one set of foals then again another. What are the naming rules anyway? There's clearly some sort of convention but I've never been able to figure it. You never see things like Night Mare or Horsey Mc Horseface, which is clearly what you'd get in a de-restricted system.

I have allotment envy. The weather here has been all over the place this year and I never got got things in at the right time. That said, 6 kg of courgette seems like too much, they don't keep like potatoes - has courgette crumble been suggested yet (in jest)?

There are some rules on naming, but they're not too heavy - no initials, no horse-terms (i.e. no Night Mare), no actual people names without written permission from that person, nothing vulgar or obscene or in poor taste. There's also some restricted names - like there'll never be another Frankel. We didn't name any of the mares (Cape Liberty is by Cape Cross, Wootton Creek is by Wootton Bassett, and more interesting, Solemn Pledge is out of Lovers' Vows) - the foals names are just nicknames for use at the yard (chosen based on phonetics and food theme - Cape Liberty - Caramac, Solemn Pledge - Solero, Kirsch gets Fondue as there's a piece of music called The Kirsch and the Fondue), they'll get proper names if they start racing

Well, there's always chutney, assuming you eat chutney.
Courgette cake? I'd never imagined such a thing. Would it not be rather dense?
