I leave tomorrow for the Texas border. I'm visiting four prisoners in three jails, and as I'm mostly ignorant of their cases, my legal work will be minimal. My biggest jobs will be to keep conversations going and to make sure I buy the right can of Coke from the vending machine ( Read more... )

Is that near Baton Rouge? A friend is a prison
chaplain in the women's prison there, Sr. Katie
Todora.

Are you doing OJT or did you have any training
in this work in college? Are you thinking about
law school now?

I remember when you were discerning about coming
to St. Cecilia's to teach. Perhaps you will one
day but this work sounds like it is right down
your alley.

Hey, I remember those days! I decided to come down to New Orleans instead and work at a law firm that takes capital cases. Law school's on the horizon, and for the moment that's where I want it.

I love the South so far. It was really a blessing the way things have turned out. St. Cecilia's is nice, I'm sure, but I feel like I found a real fit.
