Fly to Rome! It's cheaper and Florence is like Gresham compared to it. It's not too complicated, just take the train from the airport to Tiburtina station, and catch the SENA bus from there. The whole thing costs about 23 Euros, which you'll easily save on airfare. Plus, you get to say, "I'll see you in Rome." Don't dismiss the power of those words!
I miss your entries. Something about them is so grounding and familiar. I associate them with those fields and bare stalks of trees that are the late January landscape of "home."
I hope you made it to Ferlinghetti. My favorite scene in any movie is when he describes how Thomas Merton came to San Francisco, and as they sat outside a cafe in the Market District, near City Lights, F. says "Merton took quite an interest in any and all of the girls who passed by."
How's California? I was dazed after work and reading one of my roommate's girly magazines, and one place said LA is going to be the world's new art capital. Are you helping make this prognostication come true?
I love your image of home. Additionally, I'd give almost anything to be back there among the broken cornstalks and rain this coming January with my girl.

Did you fly in to Rome or Florence and then how did you get to Siena, bus or train?
