I leave early in the morning for Shreveport. For work, I spend about six days a month in the far reaches of the state, visiting prisoners and doing investigation. The Shreveport-Bossier City area, along the Texas and Arkansas borders, makes Lake Charles look like San Francisco. One of my dad's favorite stories to tell is about the Allman Brothers: they arbitrarily showed up at a Tulane homecoming dance of his and played the whole night.

After a few months in the middle school environment I have a whole new understanding for the word "Justice". Sixth graders, I've found, are obsessed with it. You give Matthew the right to leave a few minutes early, you bet your ass you better let Gabby leave early too, because they worked the same amount and focused just as intently in class. They will keep you honest, they will watch your every move..there is no room for screw ups in front of a group of 12 year olds. If only justices were as keen as a 12 year old girl or boy.
I'm reading this book called "Mountains Beyond Mountains: Healing the World: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer". It reminds me of you, check it out if you can.
