With every new person I meet, I try to give them respect. No matter who they are, I meet them openly. I notice that the mind has a tendency to try and judge and think that other people's life styles are wrong. I am always trying to fight this tendency. Live and let live! No one has the right to judge someone else's reality.
I try to find something I like about each person I meet. Because I notice, once i get to know someone, even if at first I wasn't sure about them, eventually they turn out to be really cool... So, I try to keep this attitude when meeting new people. But I do notice that sometimes, even though I am open, the other person is closed. Oh well.
yeah. everybody's doing the thing that they're doing cause it's working for them, getting them somewhere, teaching them something... or else they wouldn't have the beating heart or breathing lungs that allow them to do it...
"Respect, without transference"rawmrNovember 16 2005, 16:53:21 UTC
This can be, but the sentiment would need to be outside any specific material context. Most folk cannot experience any sentiment that is outside a specific material context, and this is the problem. Example:
He is a great: Christian; Liberal Thinker; Bastion of Conservartism; etc, etc. All specific, material contexts for this sentiment of "Respect," which will certainly be tainted by transference.

Even if they don't respect you...

I do have a tendancy to molest words and their meaning like that when i don't have any other words that remotely express what I want.
I'm trying to communicate a message of transpersonal respect here, one that goes beyond transference and projection.
But now writing this reply to you I realize that had I read what I wrote before I posted it, I might have noticed it... so the problem is my haste.
Now I've learned something, thank you.
