Part 6 - The Talk
John spent the next ten minutes trying to figure out exactly what just happened. One minute he and Rodney were talking, the next they were making out on his couch. He really had had no idea that Rodney was attracted to him. Did this mean he was? John was startled by the phone. He made his way to the kitchen and grabbed the handset.
“Urm, John, it’s Rodney,” John felt as nervous as Rodney sounded. He swallowed loudly and looked over toward Ella who was still sleeping peacefully in the bassinet.
“Hi.” It came out breathily and John realised how sexual it sounded. He cleared his throat trying to pass it off as a throat trouble.
“John I think we need to talk. About this morning. I, er, urm… I suppose I’m meant to say I’m sorry, but I can’t honestly say that I am.” Rodney paused. “I mean I think I went about it the wrong way, and it was really sudden but I, er, urm. Hell, I’m trying to explain it to you and I don’t understand it myself.”
John chuckled. It had been a long time since an attractive man got flustered over John. A very long time.
“As I recall, Rodney, I kissed you, and no, I’m not sorry either.”
“Good.” A comfortable silence fell between the two, each wanting to say more, neither willing to come out and say what was on their minds.
“You’re a really good kisser.” It was more of a whisper but John heard it loud and clear. A faint red tint highlighted his cheeks.
“You’re not so bad yourself.” They both laughed.
John could picture Rodney standing there in his house, smiling the smile where he bared all his teeth. John had licked that mouth earlier. He’d licked a lot of parts of Rodney’s mouth today.
“Come out with me tonight.”
“Huh?” Yeah, real smooth, Sheppard, now you sound like one of your students. Real attractive. He could hear Rodney laughing and he suddenly thought it was one of the most beautiful sounds he’d ever heard. He loved knowing that he was the one to cause that sound.
“Come out with me tonight. We could have dinner, go to a club, or go to the movies. Anything you want. Please say yes.”
“What about Ella? It’s a bit short notice to find a babysitter”
“So bring her with us. She’s an adorable little girl. We could go to McDonald’s. I’m willing to go and see a kid’s movie. Look, I’m begging you here. Take it as a sign. I really wanna spend some time with you and Ella.” It didn’t take long for John to decide. A date with a gorgeous man, willing to go any where and take his little girl, or willing to watch Jay Leno on the TV.
“Pick me up at eight.”
“Perfect. I look forward to it.”
“Me, too, Rodney. Bye.” He placed down the receiver, and walked over to Ella who had been roused from her slumber by John and Rodney’s conversation.
“Come on, Angel. We have a date.”
