The first time Cory met Chris was at the readthrough for the Pilot episode of Glee. Chris approached him with his hand outstretched and a warm but shy smile on his pretty face.
“H-hi,” Chris stammered as Cory shook his hand, smiling widely back at him, “I’m Chris Colfer and I’ll be playing the role of Kurt Hummel.”
His voice was really high pitched for a dude and for a moment Cory was taken aback by the amazing sound of it. He stared at Chris, shocked at how striking it was; it sounded almost like music, and he could immediately see why the writers had been so willing to write in a whole new character for this boy. If this was just him talking Cory couldn’t imagine how beautiful his singing must sound.
After thirty or so seconds had passed and Cory still hadn’t said anything (or stopped staring at Chris or let go of his hand) Chris smiled awkwardly and, blushing slightly, slid his soft hand out of Cory's grip.
“Yeah, I know, I sound like a woman. You’ll get used to it.” He joked good-naturedly, slipping his hands into his back pockets and shifting his weight from one foot to the other. Cory could tell he was nervous and had taken the silence as a bad sign. He knew he should say something to Chris. He knew he shouldn’t make this gorgeous - extremely nervous - boy stand in front of him and think he was making a fool out of himself but he was at a total loss for what to say.
He nodded dumbly, mouth hanging open slightly, before realising what he had done and quickly shaking his head. “No- no! I like it." he near enough shouted at Chris, making the boy take a small step backwards, "Ah, by the way, I’m oh- uhm- Cory... Yep. But your- yeah, you voice. I think it’s great! Uh- nice. Really nice.” he stuttered - knowing exactly how stupid it sounded but not being able to think of anything better; he didn’t want to upset Chris on their first meeting, they’d be working together for years if everything went to plan. But Chris didn’t look comforted at all; he stared at Cory with a look of ‘oh my God, is this guy for real?’ on his face. Cory began to panicking slightly, trying to think of something to say to make everything less awkward, but after a few seconds of looking at Cory like he was totally crazy, a smile crept onto Chris' face and he threw his head back and laughed.
And if Cory had thought his voice was beautiful it was nothing compared to this. Chris’ laugh was loud and melodic and sweet, and really, really genuine; it brought warmth to Cory's heart and made him want to laugh along with the younger man. When Chris eventually regained his composure he looked back up, a small smile playing on his lips and a sparkle in his eye.
“It’s very nice to meet you Oh-uhm-Cory, I think we’re going to get along very well.” He smiled sweetly, before walking off to meet the other members of the cast, once again leaving Cory lost for words.
