...has been a day and a half.
My workday at the bank went by relatively quickly, now that I brought in my tapedeck and have been playing Memoirs of a Geisha for background noise. I retrieved my reserved copy of The Lovely Bones on tape from the library today, and on the way home, called Cypress Pointe to follow up on my security deposit. As you may have guessed from my previous post, it wasn't quite what I had expected.
Going into Multi-Fin I was pretty upset about the whole ordeal, and couldn't concentrate, instead writing the lengthy, inflammatory, and profane entry preceding this one. I decided I needed to leave, and as I was walking out the door, Melissa called me to chat about what had happened with the complex. Mostly to laugh about it, but yeah. To laugh. Not in a bad way, just in a that sucks so much all I can do is laugh kind of way. I drove to Publix while still talking to her, and eventually we cut off the conversation once I had been around the store twice and up and down every aisle just about three times. I think it ended when I finally located the rice vinegar. Which I later put back on a different shelf in favor of rice wine vinegar.
I made Courtney dinner tonight as Grey's Anatomy was coming on. It was ridiculously hot and delicious and went over well, even if while cooking it no one could breathe because of the caustic fumes. Seriously. Here's what we had (a recipe I found on
AllRecipes.com this morning and modified), at least, my version of it:
Szechuan Chicken
4 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cubed
1/3 c cornstarch
1/4 c sesame oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 can water chestnuts
1 can bamboo shoots
1 habanero pepper, chopped
5 fingerhot peppers, sliced
5 Tbsp soy sauce
5 Tbsp rice wine vinegar
1/4 c water
3 Tbsp honey
3 green onions, 1" diagonal slices
1 c carrot slices
1 large handful snow peas
Place peppers in 400 degree oven for 20 minutes with dash of vinegar.
Place chicken and cornstarch into bag; shake until coated.
Heat oil in large wok or skillet over medium-high heat.
Fry the chicken pieces, garlic, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, and pepper mixture, stirring constantly until lightly browned.
Stir in the soy sauce, vinegar, honey, and water.
Cover, cook until chicken pieces are no longer pink inside, 3 to 5 minutes.
Stir in green onion, carrots, and snow peas, cooking uncovered for about 2 minutes; serve over white rice.
Chiara came home as I was cooking, and Chrissy walked in shortly thereafter. Courtney and I had a nice sit-down dinner at the table, which made me realize that I haven't even eaten at my own table. She'll be cooking next week, supposedly. Not a bad deal, I think. After Courtney did the dishes, she packed me out the door so she could get a jump on her assigned readings which are apparently due after all, despite what the syllabus says.
A bunch of people were in the apartment when I got back. Dannielle, Georgia, Joey, Jay, Debo, Elvis, and eventually John, Andrea, Marcia, and Chiara. They all ended up going out to Floyd's, I think. Or maybe Baja's. I don't know. I just know that I have to work in the morning and that I am suddenly supremely broke, courtesy of the idiots at Cypress Pointe.
Oh, and Georgia gave me an amazing foot massage after I complained about a knot that had formed in my instep that had been bothering me all day. It's amazing what you can get if you just ask, isn't it?
So now I'm getting ready to go to bed, go to work, go to work, and go back to Niceville to wish my dad a belated birthday....
Good night, everyone.
