Why not just set it to passive while traveling? It would seem an uncontrollable pet would be about damned useless in an instance.

Cos I'm not in an instance, I'm travelling. I don't really have anywhere to be, so I'm OK with it slaughtering innocent bystanders. When there's business to be done it goes into passive.
