Last week, I was out helping S_ drag a body into the woods[1], when she called out, "I just found a really cool looking grasshopper for you . . . hey, it bit me!" So I said, "Is it green, with really long legs?"
We have actually bred this genus in the AZ and they seemed to have more of an interest in oak than other arthropods.
I think that many katydids are opportunistic carnivores and that even more will bite when handled. My boss is generally wary of giving them access to his person. One must keep in mind that they are closely related to mantids (aggressive carnivores) and cockroaches (opportunistic scavengers/carnivores).
