Latest bug from the house

I just posted this week's bug entry (a larder beetle) at the new blog site. Also, serendith has kindly created a syndication feed for my new blog. Anyone who wants to take advantage of it can just add backyardbugs to their friends list, and any new postings will appear there painlessly ( Read more... )

I've been reading it. The only issue is, there's no way for anyone to comment as far as I can see. "You must be logged in to comment" and there's no way to set up an account unless I'm missing something.

I see that you're right, it isn't obvious what to do.

When it pops up the "you must be logged in to leave a comment", the "logged in" part is a hotlink to the login page, but at least on my screen it doesn't look like a hotlink until you move the mouse over it.

Once you get to the login page, there is a "register" link at the bottom that leads to a page where you enter a username and email address, and it emails you a password.

This seems like a bit more of jumping through hoops than should be strictly necessary just to leave a comment. Then again, I really don't have a feel for how bad comment spamming is these days. I'll check with the site owner to see if it would be advisable to either make it quicker, or to allow anonymous posting. At the very least, I'll see about making the "login" hotlink more obvious.
