For the most part, I would say we are there. However, anything that relies on the aforementioned "people" and "nobody" is simply unrealistic. Some people a) have nothing better to do than get all up in everyone else's business, b) believe that their opinions actually matter to all people and cannot resist "sharing" them, c) never really got it when their mommies told them "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all," or d) some combination of a), b), c). I think a major part of "growing up" is realizing that many more people than one would like to think suck big time and to ignore them and concentrate on having your own fun.
And as far as I remember, I thought you didn't really like ice cream so it doesn't matter if you can eat it whenever you like, does it?
