Urdim Kilrudlumash is the expedition leader of my dwarves and quite scary. It looks like her preferred tactic is to charge, knock the opponent over, and then hit them all about with her obsidian short sword until they pass out from the pain or suffer an unconsciousness-/paralysis-inducing head or spinal injury and then wail on them for another 2

Elf Retreat!

Also, just tagging elves as playable is apparently a good way to play a more boring and difficult game. Someone is working on a mod called, oddly enough, 'Elf Retreat' letting you play the tree mafia cannibals elves in a variant that gives you a small group to try to spread the woods to other biomes.

Elves still eat their foes, even if it was a sentient creature -- other elves and dorfs for example.

Interesting note: Even though you are playing elves yourself, you still cannot trade wood items to elven caravans. Even other elves cannot be trusted to make 'elf-kosher' wood products, apparently. A bug that I hope the modder doesn't have too hard a time fixing, since you'd expect other elves to be the one people to be able to make wooden items the elf-approved way.

Also: Do not attack the elf merchants. Doing so causes the entire encampment to flip out in a chaotic orgy of mindless slaughter as literally every elf tries to kill every other elf. Being rather pro-dorf, I'm tentatively labelling this a feature rather than a bug.
