I think so. The narrator's a demon or some otherworldly creature (so he claims to me, anyway) and he's collecting/escorting the souls of a couple that have been together for years. He's not evil or nothing, merely resigned to his task.

The crux of the story is why they're dead, with a slight twist I'm finding delightful.
