On his first visit to the orphanage, Bruce is given an offer to "in appreciation of his very generous donation", pick a child to take home and use as he desires.
Bruce initially flares in righteous anger and threatens to expose the head of the orphanage. Then he catches sight of John, so angry and beautiful, and decides to take him home.

Still the same over-enthusiastic anon here, just to let you know that I love this more and more. I like that John likes reading and tries to read as much as possible during his time there, and of course Alfred knows how to handle angry lonely orphan boys. All my feels.

so glad you like this. it's a lot of fun to write it. I love over-enthusiastic comments. \o/ I think John is really freaking smart, not only street smart, but book smart too. And somehow emphatic too. Alfred is awesome like that.

I'm glad it's fun to write because I love reading it and I can't wait to see where this goes. :D Yeah, I agree. And I can definitely see him as the kind of kid who also reads to distract himself from his pretty shitty life.

I have no idea where it goes, but as I usually like to write canon based ff, well... You are right, he would be that kid. He would read La Fontaine and he would read shitty detective stories where the good guys always win too.

I hope you'll continue, however it goes.Even though it'd tear my heart to pieces if they didn't stay together after this, smoehow. Yep, he would. And dream up stories like that in which he's the hero, and then feel stupid for it and stop.

I think they have a lot of potential, even with the movie ending like it did. life in Gotham isn't easy for anyone. he would. and it would be such a shame for him to stop dreaming he could be a hero. I admit I am super fascinated by the John Blake character Nolan gave us. I want to write him a backstory, take him through the events of TDKR and a future beyond it all. have another chapter.
