When he hears the ringing sound -- a loud, antique BRIINNNGGGG sort of noise -- the Doctor tilts his head curiously, puzzling over what, precisely, might generate such a sound. The realization dawns on him more slowly than it ought as he recalls the slender cellular phone (a vastly modern contrivance in Ianto Jones' day) that he carried specifically to keep in touch with the young man. Carried in his coat pocket. But where was his coat?
He runs his eyes across the console room. If he's completely honest with himself -- and when isn't he? -- it's trending towards disaster. A number of the roundels on the wall have been pulled out and multicolored streams of wire gush out and, in some places, pool on the floor. Not that there's anything wrong, no, not really -- just a bit of preventative maintenance. Tinkering. It had started as something to occupy himself with when Tegan decided to go out shopping -- but it may have gotten the slightest bit out of hand

It takes Ianto a moment to realize that he doesn't have the breath to speak. Well, that's silly. He lowers the phone and leans heavily against the tree, coat catching and scratching on bark. Let the Doctor worry at his silence, he doesn't care.
He does, however, want to get out of here sooner rather than later. He'd rather not end up in a psych ward, if it's all the same. He takes a deep breath and raises the mobile to his ear again.
"Help me."
He knows it's a good idea to keep lies simple, so why not start right off the bat?
If the initial silence had worried him, the breathy plea for help worries him more. His response is succinct.
"I'll be right there. Don't hang up."
He may not know what's happened or even where Ianto is -- but with a friend in trouble, there's hardly time for dalliance. He places the phone on the console and sets to tracing the signal -- a few quick button-presses and he has it. Earth, England... what would be more or less present day for Ianto.
That could be a problem... and a rather serious one.
He sets the coordinates it's the space of heartbeats for the TARDIS to take off and land again -- it feels rather longer, though, with this impatient sort of fear gnawing at the Doctor's stomach.
He's out the doors in a rush as soon as the time rotor stops.
Ianto gathers enough energy to roll his eyes - yes, of course you'll be right here, Doctor, you have a time machine - and drops the mobile into his pocket, tucking the hand with the handcuff attached in after it and holding his injured hand to his chest. At the first hint of the familiar wheezing sound, he pushes himself away from the tree, trying to figure out where the sound is coming from (besides everywhere). Over the sound of his heartbeat he imagines he can hear soldiers in the brush, coming for him. Coming for him with a straight jacket and needles and he hates needles and--
Suddenly in the darkness there's light, uncomfortably bright light, and Ianto rushes right into the rushing Doctor, sending a spike of pain up his wrist. He lurches backward with a grunt, gritting his teeth. Stupid, stupid Doctor, always rushing into things.
"Get me out of here." Because they're coming with needles.
