"Meilin-chan, won't you call me by my given name?"
Meilin, with her her mouth full of cake and a hand halfway lifted to wipe whipped cream away from her upper lip, forgets to swallow as she stares at Daidouji-san in confusion.
"I'd like it, if you did," says Daidouji-san with a smile as sweet as the cake between them. She puts the fork down on the delicate white tablecloth which looks like something out of a film from England, and lifts the hand to wipe the cream from Meilin's mouth herself. There are a great number of things about Daidouji-san that Meilin never expects her to do, no matter how many times she has surprised her now, and when Daidouji-san puts the finger in her own mouth to lick it clean, Meilin forgets what she is talking about.
"What," is all she finally manages to say, "what do you mean?"
"I think it's getting kind of silly for you to still be using my family name, that is all," and that is all Daidouji-san says as she cuts of another piece of cake and leans over the small table. Meilin obediently opens her mouth and closes her lips as Daidouji-san pulls the fork back.
"If you think so," she agrees, mostly just because she doesn't know how to refuse. Meilin knows little enough about romancing boys as she grew up in the knowledge that she one day was to marry her cousin, and she knows even less about romancing girls. Far less about how the Japanese go about courting, although she is fairly certain that Daidouji-san might not be the best example to look at.
"That's good, then," says Daidouji-san with a satisfied smile, and continues feeding Meilin cake in a manner that probably is supposed to be romantic, and which Meilin can't quite summon the spirits to be embarassed about - or at least be embarrassed about at how she is not embarrassed about it.
She doesn't even like cake all that much, but Daidouji-san had insisted that it was the most important part of Christmas, and Meilin has come to understand that Christmas is important, and reasoned that as long as it does not involve old men or worship of trees, harmless enough.
It is not quite how Meilin had thought that Christmas was celebrated, but she is miserably ignorant about foreign holidays. This is why she let Daidouji-san push her out of bed when it was still greying outside, and feed her cake until she woke up enough to realize that she was not the one guiding the fork, and that there was tea and it was getting cold.
"Daidouji - ah, Tomoyo-san," she corrects herself when Daidouji-san's plate is empty, "didn't you - "
Daidouji-san looks up as she stops talking, and Meilin takes ten seconds to shake away the sudden image of feeding Daidouji - Tomoyo-san like a baby. "Breakfast," she says at last, "isn't it too early to be having desserts?"
When Tomoyo-san puts a hand to her cheek and sighs about how she just couldn't resist with how adorable Meilin looks in that nightgown, she starts wondering if a shoeshine set might perhaps be a very inapprorpiate Christmas present.
