I  am SHOCKED that the BNP is appearing on the Beeb's Question Time.

The BBC have no choice. Having two MEPs makes the BNP a legitimate political party, and if the Beeb turns them away it leaves itself open to accusations of bias of the kind all parties have been levelling at it for years. It's a hard pill to swallow, but if the parties want the BBC to be even-handed, it has to be even-handed with everyone, not just with the people we like.
Besides, Nick Griffin's going to get his fat fascist ass kicked on live television, and that'll be worth seeing.

Sometimes it is good to pull the darkness into the light of scrutiny. I live in Kansas, home of Fred Phelps' hate-mongers; allowing them their free speech has done much for marginalizing their cause and allowing people to know exactly what they are dealing with.

I remember Fred Phelps well from our days in Topeka,especially what he did on 9/11 - picketing churches that evening. Sickening. He was often outside THS too.

I think the BEEB is doing a service to the public putting these abominable beings in the spotlight just so those who don't get exactly what they are, WILL understand.

The BNP has become quite popular in some quarters lately. Labour is out of favour right now with a lot of people and the whole immigrant question has made it so the BNP actually appeals to people who are anti-immigrant...where I live and from what I overhear as I am departing that appears to be a majority of the locals. I was quite upset to have the BNP at my door every couple of days during the elections.

My husband keeps telling me that all of this doesn't apply to me because I am a white, American but I get the feeling he is either trying to reassure me or is living in la-la land.

As for the BNP, I'm hoping they will be shown up for the ugly and dangerous people that they are.

Me too! Thank you for posting the pictures of Walton. I will go to your site to look at them. Brings back many memories. I grew up in Chelmsford.
