Prayers Needed

I've been such a Debbie Downer and such a taker later so please accept my apologies.  Hopefully you guys know that I'm usually not like this.  I have so much to write back to you all after your responses yesterday (which had me in happy tears by the way) but before then I have one more thing to ask of you all.

My best friend who went through 4 1/2 ( Read more... )

We were only in the NICU fir 19 days but it was exhausting shuttling back and forth I imagine she will be there a few months. Food to bring that's easy to grab and go or nuke in the microwave or even just snacks to have. It was hard to remember to eat and hospital food = blech.

Offer to go sit with her but dont feel bad if she declines. Some people want others around an some just don't want people there. Plus some NICU rules might not let you have visitors very long.

Whatever you do don't say "well she just couldn't wait to meet you!". For some reason that bugs me. Like it's a fun reason the baby came out early when really it's scary and sad. It could just be me. But it really bugged me.

I like kates suggestion of hand lotion! My hands were wrecked. And chopstick. The hospital air dried me out.

I hope she and the baby are ok. 29 weeks is scary but they really can do miracles. Just look at Ray San!!!

Reading these stories just makes me so grateful that my child is happy and healthy. We didn't have to deliver early, but I'll never forget the doctor saying she was *thought* she could probably get us to 28 weeks and the fear and disbelief that accompanied that.

i think maybe just helping her stay grounded so her day doesn't seem like it's all the NICU all the time. Maybe offer to stay with the child while she goes out for coffee with another friend.
