The school's National English Honor Society has grown so large that we are getting nerdy and going the route of Harry Potter and splitting into houses every other meeting. I am in charge of the "Current Trends" house for the kiddos and my group will be focusing on what is currently popular in Literature and Publishing

Could you look more at the actual business side of things? Like, "What's a literary agent?", "How is a publishing house different than an imprint?", "If you want to get read and critiqued, where can you go? Where should you go?", "What does it mean to self-publish today?", "How do you get ARCs and get to know other readers online?", "The best websites for reviews, podcasts, author chats," "How are audiobooks made and what does it mean to read with your ears?", etc? You could have your kids volunteer information about where they go to get news about publishing, writing contests, writer-share sites, etc., too.

If you are looking for a new 'subject' you don't seem to cover sci fi heavily there... it might fall into the doom/gloom but not all of it is doomy-gloomy
