Those are very beautiful examples of Sterling Silver strainers.

The prices have gone through the sky, but they are soul-satisfying objects!

I own a couple of inherited ones similar to these, but this picture is from an antiquarian's web site.

Very interesting site--thanks for the link! It makes me wish that my daily routine involved such beautiful accessories.

Taking time to brew tea, using nice utensils, giving oneself the space to enjoy it, is half the pleasure. Utterly therapeutic. That is why in Japan it's like a religious devotion.

A $15 white teapot and a $5 bowl, chosen with care, can be the beginning of a real experience.

Yeah, they are quite mouth-watering. And a lot more beautiful than an electronic gadget!

Do you use these regularly? I don't own any tea strainers of this style...sometimes I have a basket infuser that I use as a strainer though. These are certainly a lot classier than most strainers!

I wonder if the silver effects the flavour at all. I actually do like eating off silverware, and I do believe you can taste the difference.

I do not believe that silver imparts any straneous flavour to tea. Silver implements have been popular for many years with tea lovers and, kept clean, they are excellent in themselves, beyond the fact that they look great.

Harney & Sons sell an excellent silver-plated strainer that is handsome, practical and inexpensive:
