Brewed hot on the stovetop in a big saucepan/pot, then iced, sugared, and tossed into the fridge to cool down. I'll have to try sun tea one of these days, though. Perhaps when I'm on vacation; plenty of sun and heat in the midwest!

I make iced tea the same way wynndfae does. =)
I've never had sun tea...

I use an iced tea maker. It's not as delicate to the finer types of tea, but is fast and gives you bulk. I put enough sugar in my tea that this type works fine for my purposes.

I was wondering how those would handle loose leaf, which is what I primarily drink.

Just fine, you just put a coffee filter in the top. I do loose leaf about 2/3rds of the time. It's also easy to make your own blends that way. Easy to toss in rose petals or hibiscus...

I keep a bottle of water in the fridge and make tereré. Not exactly iced tea, but close enough... I'd make sun tea if a) I was sure my neighbors wouldn't throw a basketball at it, or b) I had big enough windows to make it inside.
