Pansy put down the magazine she was reading and frowned. She felt the curtains on her bed whisper open and she grabbed her wand beside her, ready to hex whatever creature was hovering nearby. Her eyes widened. There was no one there. She must be imagining things. Was she that tired? She had been busy with her classes and her training with Madame Pomfrey the whole day that she felt drained. Her eyes looked around suspiciously and she slowly lowered her wand. She let out a small scream when Harry suddenly appeared before her.
Harry winced and tried to calm Pansy down. The woman had a high-pitched scream and it made his ears ring. “Pansy, shhh…it’s just me!” he whispered. He had been under his invisibility cloak and he didn’t mean to surprise her.
Pansy tried breathed deeply, willing her heart to slow down from its rapid beating. She muttered a silencing spell so that her sleeping roommates wouldn’t hear them. “Potter! You scared me! What the hell do you think you’re doing?” she whispered as she pulled him into her canopy bed.
“Well, I couldn’t sleep and…” he trailed off until he finally noticed what Pansy was wearing, or not wearing. He thought she was a negligee witch, who only wore silk and the finest materials money can buy. But what she was wearing was a simple pink tank top and matching shorts. It was tight enough that it hugged her body.
Pansy crossed her arms over her chest. “And?” she asked, starting to feel conscious. Then quickly, she grabbed a pillow and placed it in front of her as if to cover her from his perusal.
“I assumed just you’d still be awake since you told me you have a hard time sleeping.” Harry explained.
“And you just decided to barge in here?” she asked incredulously. “I should hex you, you know!” She was pissed at he scared her half to death. But she was also glad that he went to her. It had been a month since that night at the library. Although they haven’t gone beyond friendship, they had both relished each other’s company. It was a surprise when they started talking about things they couldn’t tell even to their closest friends.
Harry lifted a shoulder. “Thank Merlin, you didn’t. So would you like to take a walk?”
Pansy stared at him, thinking for a moment. She really wasn’t in the mood to put on her robes and shoes, and leave the castle. It was already cold here in her room, she was sure it was chilly outside. “Why don’t we just stay here and talk?”
Harry tilted his head. “Are you sure? Look, I can just leave,” he said. He didn’t like it that he was bothering her. He wanted her to get some rest.
Pansy waved her hand. “I’m sure. We can talk until you get sleepy.” She settled herself between her blankets for a lot of reasons. One, it was cold. Two, she wanted to get comfortable. And three, she was shy. She was just in her pajamas, for Merlin’s sake.
He stared at her and he couldn’t help but admire Pansy’s lithe body as she moved. She had the right curves, and her skin was smooth. She had a very nice arse, too.
Pansy leaned against the headboard and placed a pillow on top of the sheets right beside her thigh. She gave it a pat beckoning Harry to lie down. He inhaled deeply and he could smell her on her pillow…like apples and strawberries.
“How did you know where my room was?” she asked and started running her hands through his unruly black hair.
He stared at her above him. “Malfoy.”
“Really? He told you where my room was?”
“Yes. You have a protective friend, Parkinson.”
Pansy smiled. Even though they were friends, they still called each other by their last names. But this time, there was no venom. It was like a term of endearment for them. “Why? What did he tell you?”
“The git gave me his evil glare, as if it would make me run to China in fright,” Harry scoffed. “And he told me that you weren’t like those girls I’ve been with before.”
“Well, that’s just Draco. He’s like a brother to me. We’ve been friends since we were in diapers,” Pansy explained. She continued caressing his hair, hoping it would help him relax and fall asleep. She realized that she didn’t mind. Although, he had to leave early before everyone woke up. “But what did he mean with the other girls comment?”
Harry paled and he cleared his throat. “Well, being…who I am, there were times when I couldn’t sleep at night, especially when I had dreams about Voldemort. Sometimes, I stayed awake all night just thinking about ways to stay alive. And in those times…I just wanted to forget, even for just a little while.”
Pansy felt odd. She didn’t know why but suddenly, the thought of all those girls he had been made her stomach churn. Her hand stopped moving.
“Please don’t stop. I liked what you were doing,” he said, his eyes getting heavy.
She did as asked and he relaxed once again. “So, you just used those women?” she asked, frowning.
Harry’s eyes opened. “I didn’t use them. They knew from the start what they were getting themselves into. But they still insisted. And…sometimes I accepted what they offered to me.”
Pansy sighed. She honestly didn’t know what to think. But she was definitely surprised.
“But Pansy, I want you to know that they all didn’t mean anything,” he shook his head. “None of them did. And Malfoy’s right. You’re not like them.”
“I believe you,” she said softly. She didn’t know why, but she did.
They stayed quiet for a few minutes and soon Pansy could hear Harry’s soft even breathing. He was fast asleep. Slowly and gently, she took off his glasses. She settled herself beside him, and without thinking she leaned over and kissed him on his lips. “Night, Harry.”
