Teague's rocking GP run

Okay, I finally got it up and loaded and here it is: Teague kicking ass at USDAA mid December. It's so wonderful when things really click.

We have ANOTHER usdaa trial coming up a 2 weekends. It's been nice not going to the currently running AKC trials, 1. because they are bitter cold, and 2. a change of people :) - though I have to say USDAA was ( Read more... )

Beautiful run.

I agree, I do think USDAA is a bit noisier, but the crowd is much different than an AKC trial, particularly in Northern Cal where you can compete in USDAA only as there are many more shows.

As for the incessant barking, I don't mind it because my dogs don't mind it. I did have a dog who barked perpetually as we were waiting to run. I wouldn't enter the ring with her until the previous dog was completely done running, even in AKC, much to the dismay of the gate steward. The only time the barking dogs concern me is when they enter the ring and distract the dog that is running. I don't think it happens frequently, but I'm also not convinced that their handlers are aware that their entry into the ring might have disrupted another team's run.

Great observation. I definitely see dogs effected by the barking and there is sort of an "it's our issue if you don't like it" mentality that I think is inconsiderate. I like the waiting until the other dog is done running idea, if your dog is barking, as that is pretty distracting, and potentially a problem, ie causing a fight. Not entering is being considerate :)

Lovely run,I'm guessing it was a GP win! Smooth.

Barking, dogs do it, some more than others, lots like to do it when they are happy, agility makes dogs happy;) There are also the dogs that bark at the other dogs that are running, kind of annoys me a bit if the handler is standing ringside and allowing their dog to bark at the running dog. It is just a bad behavior to promote in my book and not fair to the dog in the ring.

Now the crate barking and lunging, not a fan. It is pretty simple to prevent.

Most of the dogs I saw do it were barking at the moving dog in the ring. Not bouncing around looking at their happy owner barking, but more prey drive barking. That's what I don't let my dogs do, and what I find disconcerting. Teague would LOVE to do this behavior, no way. As for the crate behavior, yeah, that sucks, but why is that worse than the standing ringside and barking and lunging? Is it that we expect that as we walk our dogs to their crates that they aren't going to be traumatized by a lunging barking dog, but that bet is off when they go to be in the staging area? Is it the nature of the barking? Where it is occurring? What we think motivates it? I've been near " happy" barking dogs that aren't fixated on the dog in the ring, and while loud it didn't bother me. So, I'm thinking it's the nature of the barking and the sheer numbers all at once that bothered me. Interesting to think through. Thanks

Oh, and this was a third place finish! Behind a dog named Fireball, and in second was Silvinia Bruerra (sp) and maja. She beat us by .01 second. Given a couple of wide turns w Teague I was really happy!
