So, LJ thinks they're FB -- turning on new "features" with an opt-out rather than an opt-in and then announcing them as a fait-accompli? How .... unfortunate.

Yep. Hence the broadcasting of information where it can be sown. You can point to this, or the original post on permmembers. Both posts are unlocked, so spread the word.

I mod about 10 comms, so it was pretty straightforward to just go down the list and unmark the latest spam "protection" bit.

I'm there with the same login but haven't done much over there, but yes, please, do add me as mod. If you need me over there, like you are going away, poke me. I will gradually be adding dreamwidth to my daily readings anyway.

Thanks for this - I missed it from not reading the damn announcements closely (cuz they bore me).

I'm mostly on DW now anyway, but still occasionally crosspost.

I fixed it in my journal.

I don't think they explicitly announced it; I think it was part of their spam measures and folks didn't catch the word "whitelist." It took lots of people by surprise, which is why I'm spreading the word.
