I don't know why I'm scared [for Haylie]

He wasn't exactly sure what caused it -well he was, but that was something he didn't want to consider at that point. It was like his feet were on autopilot, and after sitting staring at his own wall for a few hours, he finally stood up and just walked ( Read more... )

Tonight, like most any other night, Haylie had been up and alert due to yet another bout of insomnia with which she was losing. Heavily. She'd done laps, blown up a few rocks, and worked on her katas and she just couldn't seem to wind down. So instead she was trying to meditate herself into sleeping. And it had been working... until she became aware of the door clicking shut and the footsteps towards her bed.

Daken, while bold, wouldn't be caught dead letting her hear him approach, and Wade would've made much more noise just to be a little shit. Which really only left her with one option.

"Spencer?"

Rolling over, she blinked up at the person sitting on her bed and sat up slowly. "It's late, are you okay?"

It was late. It was very late. Shit, he'd woken her up. "Right, yeah, sorry. I was just-" Wandering around aimlessly and came here because it felt safe. Right, that'd go down well. Especially when she asked why he needed to feel safe, and-

Would he be granted a room change without giving a reason for the request?

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you. I'll see you in the morning, yeah?" And he really had meant to turn around and head out, rather than just slowly shift towards the door with a lack of enthusiasm.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Pump your brakes." Frowning, she reached out and grabbed his hand. Shifting, she studied his face and there was something about his demeanor that made her think that Daken was responsible. And she really hoped that she was just being paranoid for once. Because she'd kill him if he hurt Spencer.

"You're gonna sit your ass down on this bed and tell me what's goin' on." Had he not known Haylie the way he did, he'd probably think she was being harsh, when really it was just her protective nature kicking in on top of her usual brand of sarcasm.

He sat when she told him to, and it just made him feel tired. Was he following directions because of what happened, or what it just because Haylie was a comforting force and really, he didn't mind doing like she asked? It was too much to process the way he felt it was just-

"It's nothing, just, I dunno, just my head's a little messed up just now I think." He wasn't really sure what he could blame it on. There was no way he could explain it, no way he could actually get the words right in his head never mind coming out his mouth.

The best thing to do was just sit there, lean into Haylie and be thankful that she didn't just let him leave. Because he really didn't want to leave.
