I wonder if they have truly forgotten, though. I sometimes think they’re just so full of their own outrage over others’ outrage, they (involuntarily) ignore the fact that a hoodie is usually just a hoodie for some people. Or they don’t even consider the possibility of such a truth existing.
Geraldo, at least, didn’t even pretend to have forgotten: he said outright that his advice was for Black and (non-White)Latino kids.
uk news has this all over. What a travesty. If Trayvon was white, we would be looking at Zimmerman having a jail term. Sadly, as in all western countries, we have the usual ranking of white (top), hispanic (middle), black (bottom). People who bleat on about the 'justice system' really, really, really are not stepping back to see the big picture.
There is a phrase in the UK 'I'm all right Jack', basically why look to injustice outside yourself coz you are OK. This is the mentality of so many people who say 'but, but, but.. the law, the law. It found it was ok'.
Of course I remember what this asshat said. He's always been an asshat and spews his hatred because he needs to feel relevant. Fuck him. I didn't like his ass then and I cannot stand him now.
As far as I'm concerned, he can go choke on his own spit. I've been angry...well, I'm always angry about this sort of thing, long before this one case because I know that it's ALWAYS HAPPENING. Now to witness folks being so comfortable in their racism and prejudice is sickening. And maddening. And makes me want to flip a table onto their heads.
I just watched this video. Apart from the shocking amount of pancake Rivera appears to be wearing, his defense of racism is very troubling. Yeah, you look suspicious so 'you deserved it'. It is spookily similar to rape apology. If you didn't wear those heels and that skirt...
'If you didn't wear a hoodie, you wouldn't have got shot dead', is victim-blaming in the extreme, something which in my mind appears to be on the rise. What the twit has also hilighted (unwittingly) is the demonisation of teenagers, a phenomena that IMO seems to be rising also.
The body language of the other hosts was interesting, although their words did not disagree, the right hand man and the woman looked bodily uncomfortable.
