Its surely a swing to the right for both sides. Likud's wildest dream, and perhaps plan, come true. Sharon will be replaced by someone more right (if that's possible) and then Hamas will not let Palestinian blood spill so easily. This isn't a good thing for stability.
Fatah hardliners may not be able to reliquish power to Hamas and there could be some infighting, also dark.
We now have a way of opening negotiations with Hamas where there was no avenue before, this is good.
I don't live there and I'm so ignorant of the whole situation, my viewpoint aint worth too much....that said, I think some of Khalid Mish'al comments ring quite true, notably:
"The day Hamas won the Palestinian democratic elections the world's leading democracies failed the test of democracy. Rather than recognise the legitimacy of Hamas as a freely elected representative of the Palestinian people, seize the opportunity created by the result to support the development of good governance in Palestine and search for a means of ending the bloodshed, the US and
