Today is our seventh wedding anniversary. To celebrate, we went out for dinner and to a movie.

We saw Constantine. The only other movie at the theater that sort of interested me was Cursed, and the teenybopper running the soda stand said that Constantine was the better of the two. Ouch.

First of all, Keanu will always be Theodore Logan. Even Neo couldn't change his destiny.

That being said, I mostly liked the movie anyway, for all that it was pretty mindless. Not that I dislike Keanu, mind you. It's just that I kept expecting him to break out with an "Excellent!", yet I was always disappointed.

Second, I firmly believe after seeing this movie, that someone in Hollywood has stumbled upon the existence of the slash subculture. This movie was as slashy as anything I've ever seen.

The evidence.

Constantine and Angela never once kissed. Oh, there were three close calls, but not one liplock in the whole movie. Hah!

Constantine and Balthazar came closer to a smooch than two of the close calls between John and Angela. Yes, yes they did.

Lucifer? Running his foot up the inside of Constantine's leg. Also a lot of touchiness. Gotta love Lucifer. Don't care who you are.

All of that aside, the things I liked about the movie (besides the slashtastic stravaganza)? I loved that Gabriel was female. Added to that, I loved the special effects of the wings. I loved the way Lucifer was characterized. I have a thing for cheesy bad guys, what can I say? I liked the character of Midnite, too.

Things I didn't like... the moralizing. Please, let me just enjoy my senseless violence, kay? I don't need to be beat over the head with "smoking bad". I get that. Been hearing that since grade school. I get it already. The storyline was far, far too predictable. That always annoys me. The special effects in the movie, other than the wings, were nothing spectacular.

Really? Best scene was between Constantine and Lucifer. And that was all because of Lucifer. I really do have a thing for the bad guys.

So, all in all, I wouldn't pay to go see this movie again, but it's worth a DVD rental.
