Well I'm just speaking from personal experience, but I know for a fact the people I've heard saying it repeatedly are completely unaccepting of things outside the "norm", and it makes me rage that they're such hypocritical assholes.

I agree, that is overused. I've never thought about it as open-minded though, it's always been a business phrase to me with someone trying to be creative for marketing or whatever. I think it's interesting that you point that out! I think the next time someone who isn't open minded says that and I get annoyed, I'm blaming you. :P

feel free to blame me :) People at work say it all the time in a "business sense", but the reason why it makes me rage is because they are bigots and close-minded and totally unaccepting of people who aren't "normal". You can't use that phrase if you're a bigot - it's so fucking hypocritical that it makes me insane
