Appearance: Yukina is a small Ice Demon with long turquoise hair that she ties back with a red hair decoration. She has red eyes and usually wears a turquoise kimono. Yukina wears a sweet and innocent expression on her face, which matches her personality. She dresses in a very traditional Japanese way. However, this changes after she moves to the human world at the end of the series. There, she engulfs herself in the human culture and wears a pink dress and a brown cardigan sweater. No matter what she wears, she is modest and always looks cute.
Abilities: Being a demon, Yukina does have some power. She happens to be a koorime, and therefore, has control over ice. Her cyrokinesis allows her to bring the temperature of a room down to freezing, which allows her to cover a room in ice. However, since Yukina is not a fighter, she does not use this power to attack others. When she does freeze over a room, it is usually done to protect herself from others who wish to do her harm. This can be seen in the first episode she appears in when she is captured by Tarukane. She freezes the whole room in order to ward people away.
Another power that koorime’s have are changing their tears into crystals, which are called Hiruseki Stones (or Crystal Tears). Anytime she cries, her tears harden and become Hiruseki Stones. The stones are worth millions of dollars, and people use and abuse her for the stones. These stones are the reason Tarukane kidnapped Yukina. Since she did shed the tears, he was able to become richer than what he already was.
Lastly, Yukina has some healing powers. She is still learning them, but she is able to heal many injuries. She heals fast herself, because she is a demon, but she is also able to heal others. Because she is passive, she’d rather heal than attack others, so the ability to heal is very important to her.
Personality: Every bone in Yukina’s body is good. She is sweet and caring girl who always puts others before herself. She could care less about her well-being if someone she knows is in trouble. She knows that she isn’t strong, but that doesn’t stop her. Yukina is the furthest thing from selfish. She even puts her brother before herself, when she doesn’t even know who her brother is, nor does she know the kind of person he is. She even goes out into the human world to look for him, but ends up being captured instead. While she was capture, she was tortured daily to get the tears she produced, so she became numb to everything. However, they were able to crack her when they attacked her animal friends. This shows how sensitive she is. She doesn’t shed a tear when she is tortured, but the second her animal friends are killed, Yukina sheds her crystal tears.
Yukina is willing to put herself through any pain if it means being able to find her brother, or protecting those she loves. She has a big heart that has room enough for everyone, even those that treat her badly. When she is finally rescued from Tarukane, she stops Hiei from beating him to death, and even sheds a few tears for Tarukane’s life to make Hiei stop. She hates seeing anyone hurt. She believes there is a better way to solve problems, and fighting should be a last result. Yukina possesses a strong inner-strength that allows her to stand up for what she believes in, and allows her to keep looking for her lost brother. She may be physically weak, but she is extremely strong mentally.
In addition, Yukina is very slow with understanding other’s feelings for her. This is seen when she is with Kuwabara. He fell in love with Yukina the second he saw her, but she does not recognize those feelings, and only loves him like a friend. Romantic feelings are something Yukina doesn’t really understand, but family and friend love is something she knows well. So, to much of Kuwabara’s dismay, she treats him the same way she treats everyone else and only loves him like a brother.

Yukina was born into this race, her mother being a woman named Hina. Unlike the rest of her race, Yukina was born with a twin brother. Hina had a forbidden relationship with a fire demon, who became the father. Since the race is all female, Yukina’s brother was viewed as a cursed child and out casted him. It became the job of Hina’s friend, Ruri, to dispose of the Yukina’s brother, while Yukina was kept in the village. Even though Hina did have her daughter, the lost of her son sent her into a depression, which cause her to kill herself, leaving Yukina in the care of Ruri. While in Ruri’s care, Yukina learns of her long lost brother for the first time and goes out to search for him.
While Yukina was out in the human world, she was kidnapped by a man named Torukane and his goons for her Crystal Tears. He wished to become richer than he already was, and was willing to put Yukina through massive amount of pain to get the tears he so desperately wanted. She was kept in a room that was covered in talisman that harmed koorimes’, so she couldn’t leave. However, to protect herself, she froze the room over. Soon the freezing cold temperature of the room matched her disposition. She became numb to everything Torukane and his goons put her through, since she refused to give him any of her tears. Even though she didn’t want to give him any of her tears, he was still able to get them.
In one instance, Yukina befriended one of Torukane’s goons. The man connected to Yukina and saw the small ice demon as a little sister. He tried to help her escape, but only ended up being killed. Torukane knew about the escape the whole time, but was willing to let Yukina get far in order to crush her spirits more. His plan worked, and Yukina was crushed by the lost of her new friend. Another time she shed tears was for her animal friends. Even though Yukina is friendly, she had always been closest to animals. The animals in the forest around Torukane’s mansion became her friends. Sadly, her animal friends were killed in order to get Yukina to cry, and it worked.
It didn’t take long for the Demon World to find out about Yukina’s entrapment, and they sent out Yusuke to save the small demon girl. With the help of Botan and Kuwabara, who had fallen in love with the koorime, Yusuke was able to reach the mansion to save Yukina. Torukane caught wind of these visitors and started to take bets from his exclusive club, the Black Book club, about if the intruders would make it. He even hired a pair of extremely strong demons, Toguro brothers, to help get more tears from Yukina, and ensure his victory in his club to gain even more money.
Torukane kept losing bet after bet, but he knew the Toguro brothers were going to win and get all his money back. Yusuke, Botan, and Kuwabara were able to make it to the stronghold and to the last battle between them and the Toguro brothers. Seeing the two boys fight for her safety worried her. Yukina didn’t want to see anyone hurt because of her. Then, Hiei appeared and started to beat Torukane, willing to put him through the pain he put Yukina through. However, Yukina stopped Hiei. She didn’t want to see anyone else hurt, and because this pled came from his sister, Hiei obeyed.
Yusuke and Kuwabara were able to win the fight against the Toguro brothers, and Yukina went downstairs to help heal them. There she finally gets to meet Kuwabara, but is clueless to his feelings for her. Then she confess that she doesn’t hate humans, despite the fact humans has caused her so much pain.
After this ordeal, Yukina was sent home. There she learned more about her brother. She found out that he was a skilled martial artist and that her best chance of finding him would be at the Dark Tournament. While waiting for the Dark Tournament , Yukina practiced her healing ability. However, when the Tournament started, Yukina left in order to find her brother. Finding him became her life’s goal, and nothing would stop her.
When Yukina reached the Tournament, she was able to see Botan again and make new friends with Keiko and Shizuru Kuwabara, Kazuma's older sister. The group of four went to the Tournament together and cheered on for Yusuke, Hiei, Kuwabara, and Kurama. Having her there gave Kuwabara a sudden burst of energy. Though Kuwabara called it “the power of love”, Yukina didn’t quite understand it. Sadly, all of Kuwabara’s moves go right over her head. However, she does called Kuwabara by his first name, Kazuma, which not a lot of other people do.
Yukina spent the Tournament sitting and watching the battles, with Shizuru, Botan and Keiko. However, because of Botan’s sense of direction, the group of girls missed a portion of the semi-finals due to the semi-finals being moved to another building. Luckily, they were able to get there and were able to cheer on Team Urameshi. When Sakyo blew the stadium, and himself, up as part of a bet, Yukina, along side many other spectators, barely escaped the tournament with her life.
After the Tournament, Yukina returned to her search for her brother. She still works on her healing abilities and hopes to one day find the brother she never got to know. Ever the optimist, Yukina knows she will find her brother one day and have the family she never knew she had.
