You'll get sick if y'drink too much, yeah. Y'gotta be smart 'bout or else you'll make an ass o'yourself. But drinkin's a social thing. Y'do it with friends so you all can laugh at each other 'bout how dumb you're acting. An' it can be relaxing up to a point.
