Ooh, I didn't know that your mum was a master exerciser/organization maintainer. I'll probably take you up on that offer.
As for kaizen, the first bit of advice that comes to mind is to take ridiculously small steps. Even if it seems like it won't make a difference - for example, someone wants to get in shape, but they feel they don't have any time, let alone the energy and motivation to work out for the recommended 30 minutes a day. So they start out marching in front of the TV for ONE minute a day. You start with something so small and easy, that you know there's no way you can fail, and it doesn't feel like, "How am I going to fit that in?" And when that's effortless and automatic, you step it up a little, but still something that you know you can't possibly fail. And next thing you know, you're doing 30 minutes a day - and enjoying it!
