Character Information:
Full Name: Ciel Phantomhive
Series Taken From: Kuroshitsuji
Power Retained: none at all, just a pretty glowy eye with a demon contract that does nothing without Sebastian
Background: Ciel Phantomhive was born in 1875 during the reign of Queen Victoria in England to the prestigeous Phantomhive family. They were known as the Nobles of Darkness, taking control of the English underworld and guarding it in the way the queen would want. Ciel was a sickly child, having inherited his mother's asthma, but had a happy and sheltered childhood untouched by darkness. He was a beautiful child with loving parents and doting family, a fiancee who adored him and an affectionate dog. Despite being sickly, Ciel was a very happy child until his tenth birthday.
On December 14, 1885, the Phantomhive manor burnt to the ground, leaving only the old butler, Tanaka, barely alive. Vincent and Rachel Phantomhive died in the fire, and Ciel's body was missing from the ruins, presumed dead. It wasn't until a month later that Ciel reappeared, this time with a new butler by his side- he was injured, but alive... physically. The rest of his family soon found that Ciel had changed drastically, from a happy and affectionate child to one who was quiet, somber, and refused all forms of touch.
On his tenth birthday, after watching his house and parents burn, Ciel had been kidnapped and then sold into slavery where he was locked in a cage like an animal and tortured. It is hinted that many unspeakable things happened to him during this time, slowing breaking his spirit day by day until he was finally placed upon an alter and gutted as a sacrifice in a cult. Ciel survived that day by renouncing God and forming a contract with a demon who had been drawn to him by his bitter hate and need for revenge. In return for Ciel's soul, the demon would have to help the child achieve his vengeance and prevent him from dying until then. He named the demon Sebastian after his deceased dog, who had been loyal to him to the very end.
From that day forward after Sebastian killed everyone in the room who tormeted Ciel, the Phantomhive heir took his rightful place as the new head of the Phantomhive family, crushing any opposition to the Queen and seeking out the darker mysteries of England. He sat in the open and waited for those who took him to come for him again, and this time he would be the one to crush them.
The series starts two years after Ciel's kidnapping, introducing Ciel as the head of Funtom Company, which specializes in toys and candy and is an extremely successful company. The twelve-year-old Earl Phantomhive is revealed to have darker connections when he is requested by the Queen to investigate the case of Jack the Ripper. It is during that case that Ciel finds out the existance of Gods of Death, and reveal his own loving aunt, Madam Red, to be the culprit. She attempted and failed to take Ciel's life, and was killed for it. After that, Ciel learned that he could not trust even his family, and kindness and hesitation like that displayed by Madam Red would only get him killed.
The storyline continues until the next significant event when Ciel is called to investigate Noah's Ark Circus regarding the case of missing children that trailed behind the circus. Sebastian manages to get Ciel in undercover to investiage, where Ciel pretends to be an innocent servant boy to get a member of the circus to trust him. He falls ill at the circus and returns home after he gets the information he needed, and sets out to investigate the patron of the circus, a Baron Kelvin. It turns out the Baron Kelvin had been eagerly anticipating Ciel's arrival, and reveals that while he was not there the day Ciel summoned Sebastian, he had been watching Ciel's progress as a slave eagerly, as he had been infatuated with Ciel and the rest of the Phantomhive family ever since he first met eight year old Ciel. He was the one kidnapping the children and using them as entertainment to kill each other. He invites Ciel down to the basement where he reveals that he had been meticulously re-creating the antichamber where Ciel was sacrificed.
This was where Ciel snapped from the horror and the flashbacks, and ordered Sebastian to destroy everything... burn everything to ashes. Even the kidnapped children still in the manor. When asked later, Ciel says that those children would not have survived anyway, having witnessed the horrors they did. He readily admits that he survived because of Sebastian, and he was not willing to give Sebastian up to anyone.
In the latest arc, Ciel hosted a party on request of the Queen and solved the mystery of a series of murders throughout the night, finally pointing the finger at a rival company owner. Sebastian was not with him a good portion of the time, and it is the first time Ciel has been on a case, even a partial one, without his butler. It is hinted that he purposely pointed the finger at the wrong person for the murder case, and that the entirety is a set-up to rid a rival and reveal a new enemy.
Directly after the murder cases, Ciel is called to investigate a mysterious house at the edge of an even more mysterious town. As Sebastian is already busy investigating the newest threat against the Phantomhive family and Ciel proved himself extremely capable of handling himself in their last case, the young Phantomhive head has taken it upon himself to investigate this case by himself. After all, should he ever have need of Sebastian, he need only think it and the demon had never let him down before.
Now with the mysterious letter claiming treasure and the Queen's letter to investigate heavy in his pocket, Ciel approaches the house.
Summing it up, Ciel is an extremely intelligent and mature thirteen year old, fully capable of manipulating anyone to think him sweet and innocent. He uses his young looks ruthlessly and is extremely skillful at games of strategy. He is bitter and disillusioned about humanity in general, and trusts no one, not even Sebastian at times. Ciel can be kind, but the kindness is sparse and unforgiving at times. He usually stays away from others as he does not like dealing with people in general. Physically, Ciel is on par with what he should be, if not above average. He hunts and can ride horses, dances and fences. Ciel plays the violin as well, and while he is not talented, he is not shabby at any of his fields, either. Although he's taken from manga-verse, there's a line from the anime I think sums him up quite well when Claude says that Ciel's soul was one who had seen suffering, darkness, and despair, but remained pure and white in spite of it.
Sample Third-Person Post:
There was something peculiar that Ciel could not quite put his finger on. The house was too strange, too dark and too alive to be something of non-supernatural origin. It was something he was all too familiar with, having a demon butler under his service. But this was different. It wasn't as if there was one person pulling the strings from behind, rather than it was just the house felt... haunted. Not right.
He did not believe in ghosts. But then, he had not believed in Gods of Death until he met one. But there was nothing in this world, real or not, that would daunt Ciel Phantomhive.
And that was why, despite all the warnings churning in his stomach, he strode cleanly through the door of the house after no one answered his knocks and even closed the door behind him. He would not be intimidated by feelings of unease or doubt. He was here to investigate this manor, and investigate it he would, with or without Sebastian's help.
Sample First-Person Post:
There is a thing in the kitchen stinking up the house. As the kitchen is the only place to find food at times, and there are no servants to maintain the upkeep of the house, it would be preferred if the person who created the thing step forward and clean it up.
Preferred does not signify an option, if you must know. You will come down here and fix the mess you made.
