Side Story #01: Regarding the Philosopher's Stone
"How did you and Nicholas manufacture the Philosopher's Stone without any effects?" It was the first time Edward had been so serious since coming to Hogwarts. "This world is different from mine, but I don't believe creating a Philosopher's Stone could be any easier."
Dumbledore understood what he meant. Alchemy was a science, not sorcery, and even with the different leash-limit on usage, the laws were still present.
"I was not the one who created the stone you read of." replied Dumbledore quietly. "Nicholas was. And he followed the rule of Equivalent Trade as well."
"What was his sacrifice?"
"He gave up," Dumbledore said after a pause, "his ability to die. Do not look so shocked, Edward. He might've been in great pain or sickness and have been unable to leave this world. The trade was even. However, our world, as you've stated, is different from Amestris. When the stone was destroyed," Ed blanched, "he was allowed to die again and shortly after, he did that very thing."
Edward heaved a great sigh. It seemed he was more relieved than anything.
"Is that all, Edward?" the Headmaster asked mildly.
"Yes, sir." he said with a bow, getting up to leave. "Thank you."
It was unnecessary to remind Edward the dangers of attempting to make one; he already knew.
